Although we ocasionaly saw roadsigns "Beware of Camels" it took us more than one week in the Sultanate before we saw our first animals. Two camels were tied up to a pickup which we passed on the highway on our way to Nizwa. By chance it stopped at the same fuel station that we did. Later the same day our taxi driver Hussein showed us a farm where camels are bred for camel-races.
At our visit to the Wahiba desert we saw camels. They seemed to live freely but were kept by Bedouins.
