Vandalism - broken off stalactites inside the Secret Chamber
stalactites / helictites broken off since 1989 are marked red

Altough it is dangerous and strenuous to get there and it is difficult to find the Secret Chamber cave-vandals left their traces at the Holy of the Holies. All the way through Katafigi one find remains of broken off stalactites and pieces of it scattered on the ground. Seeing this makes us sad and angry.
Please mind, that stalactites / helictites are growing very, very slowly. On the photos above there is no visible increase in length of stalactites / helictites in 17 years!
